A seven-day trip does not automatically require a large suitcase. With a simple outfit plan and a little discipline, one carry-on can be enough for many destinations.
Choose a small colour palette
Pick two or three base colours so most tops work with most bottoms. This creates more outfit combinations with fewer pieces.
Use a 5-3-2 clothing framework
A useful starting point is five tops, three bottoms and two pairs of shoes, then adjust for weather and activities. Add underwear, sleepwear and one versatile outer layer.
Wear the bulky pieces
Travel in your heavier shoes and jacket when practical. This leaves more suitcase space for lighter items.
Pack by category
Place clothing in cubes or compact sections, keep toiletries together and fill small gaps with socks or accessories. Avoid adding “just in case” pieces unless they solve a realistic need.
Plan one laundry moment
For warm destinations or active trips, washing a few lightweight items midway through the week can dramatically reduce how much you need to carry.
Before closing the suitcase, remove anything that does not work with at least two planned outfits.
