Fragile souvenirs can survive the journey home when they are packed as part of the suitcase structure rather than added at the last minute.
Choose the safest location
Place delicate items near the centre of the suitcase, surrounded by soft clothing rather than close to the outer shell.
Create layers of protection
Wrap items individually in soft fabric, then place them inside a small pouch or structured packing cube so they do not move freely.
Fill empty spaces
Use socks, scarves or other soft items to reduce movement around the souvenir. Movement inside the bag is often the main problem.
Repack before the return trip
Do not assume the suitcase will close the same way it did at departure. Reorganize the full bag so the fragile item has a protected position.
If an item is especially valuable or delicate, consider whether carrying it with you is more appropriate than placing it in checked luggage.
